Woodland Creation

We are passionate about trees and the critical role woodlands play in sustaining healthy ecosystems. As lovers of nature, we deeply appreciate the beauty and tranquillity that woodlands offer. We understand that the benefits of woodlands are undeniable, from cleaning our waters to capturing carbon, and that’s why we are committed to help you build these vital landscapes sustainably.

Woods for Nature

Woodlands are vital for biodiversity, providing unique and diverse habitats for thousands of species. For instance, a single oak tree can support over 2,300 species, with 326 of them entirely dependent on oak for their survival. By creating large wooded habitats, we expand and connect wildlife corridors on a transformative scale, giving nature a fighting chance to recover and thrive.

Woods and Water

Strategic woodland creation can also play a role in water management. By planting the right tree in the right place, we can reduce the impacts of stormwater and floodwater, combat drought, improve water quality, reduce soil erosion, and keep our rivers cool. Woodlands act as natural buffers between watercourses and neighboring lands, reducing runoff pollutants by up to 80%, and cut down sediment run-off by 90-100%. Woodlands play a crucial role in maintaining soil health and water purity, safeguarding both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, and fostering a balanced, healthy environment.

Woods and Carbon

Woodlands are key players in the fight against climate change, serving as powerful carbon sinks that capture and store carbon from the atmosphere. Trees absorb carbon dioxide during photosynthesis, and store carbon in their biomass – trunks, branches, leaves, and roots- for decades. In addition to sequestering carbon in their structure, woodlands also promote carbon sequestration in the soil, where rich organic matter accumulates over time. Forest soils alone store more carbon than the atmosphere and all living organisms combined, making woodland creation a critical strategy in mitigating global warming.

At Rainbow, we’re committed to aiding nature’s recovery by supporting woodland creation. Whether its through planting riparian woodlands to improve water quality or creating expansive wooded habitats to support wildlife, we want to help you create a more sustainable future for our planet. By expanding these natural carbon sinks and enhancing biodiversity, we can contribute to a resilient environment that can better withstand the challenges of climate change.
